YRP@NBL STUDENT WINS ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
Congratulations to Mohamed Taufik Rahim of Temasek Polytechnic on winning an engineering scholarship from The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) and Yayasan Mendaki (Mendaki).
The IES-Mendaki scholarship is awarded annually since 1986 to the top two Malay-Muslim engineering students. This year’s award was presented to Taufik at the IES 52nd Annual Dinner and Closing Ceremony of the 36th ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations by Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Minister of State (Manpower and National Development) and Professor Yeoh Lean Weng, IES President.
Taufik has been on research attachment at NBL since April 2018. He is currently working on an automated device to detect salmonella in raw meat under the supervision of NBL Senior Research Scientist, Dr Xu Guolin.
“Taufik worked very hard on the food safety project and had the opportunity to learn about the biomedical device research. I am pleased to note that he is very motivated to pursue further studies in biomedical engineering,” said Dr Xu Guolin.
“We are very proud of Taufik for winning this scholarship, and hope that it will encourage him to pursue a career in STEM. He has shown great interest and aptitude for biomedical research, and we hope that he will continue to work hard to achieve his career goals,” said Ms Noreena AbuBakar, NBL Director and Chair of YRP@NBL.
